OKO is an intelligent tutoring platform that consists of a series of collaborative games aimed at improving social emotional skills in students while they learn math. This research study will evaluate OKO's effectiveness in authentic classroom environments and its impact on student outcomes.
When
- 10 weeks during spring 2026
How
- Participating teachers will be randomly assigned to either a treatment condition of implementing OKO in their classes, or to a control condition where they will continue their business-as usual practices.
- Treatment teachers will receive training, complete a pre- and post-survey, and will be asked to incorporate the expanded OKO games into their existing math lessons 2-3 times a week for 10 weeks.
- A select group of classes will be observed by WestEd.
- A select group of teachers will be interviewed by WestEd.
- Students will complete pre- and post-assessments and pre- and post-surveys
Benefits
- Students will practice math skills in engaging ways that may foster collaboration and
learning in math.
Incentives
- Teachers will receive up to $500 for participating in study activities.
